In partnership with Vinology, Strategy Consultants for everything wine, we presented a redesign bid for the food court area of Mercado San Miguel — once a traditional neighborhood market, now the most popular tapas market among tourists in Madrid.
Always building from the beauty of the beginning of last century’s iron structure of this covered food market, our goal was to ease the flow of patrons, visitors, and staff. The overall design concept brings cozy and contemporary feeling to the venue, with a functional and flexible seating area capable of adapting to the multiple uses of the space.
We also wanted to enhance the market’s identity throughout the space by designing the signage for all the stands that reflected the vintage character of the building. To show the market’s engagement to local produce, we integrated a vertical vegetable garden next to one of the entrances.
